Enjoying the moment


How are you? 

I've been at a bit of a crossroads recently, if I'm honest. Things have happened that have made me stop and re-evaluate where I am heading and why I feel in such a rush to get there. I did something wrong, not dangerous, but it led to other people being affected - people that I care for deeply. So I stepped away from something that I enjoyed and took time out. 

During this time out I have taken a few tentative steps into assessing myself and my goals, what I want my priorities to be and why it is important. At the same time, I have been trying to discover my limiting beliefs - the things that I put in my way to stop me getting where I want to. To say that this couple of weeks have been transformative is an under-statement!

What I've discovered is that my inner voice tells me that I'm not worthy of success: I can't work hard enough; I've never been any good at this sort of thing; I don't deserve it. All of this is, of course, rubbish - but I still listen(ed) to that voice. I'm trying to ignore it and give it a reality check; it's difficult to ignore a voice that you've been using for nearly fifty years. 

I've also discovered that by accepting that this might be untrue, I can move forward freely. 

What I have started to do is recognise what I do have and be grateful for that - just recognising this abundance means that I can move away from the negative feedback loop that I was in. I am starting to love who I am and appreciate the gifts that I have been given in this life - it's hard and it's somewhat scary at times and yet it feels right. I feel lighter and more at ease than I have in a long time, the disconnect is lessening between my dreams and my reality. 

So what now? 

I'm taking each day as it comes, looking after my family and myself more. I'm also taking a leap of faith and going full-time in my holistic therapy. This means that there are more appointments available for those who have busy timetables and yet still need to have that little nook of relaxation, including me...

The importance of touch


Good morning,

I hope this finds you well, rested and feeling ready for anything. We've had half-term for my son, a breather in the midst of exam season so that he's ready to go back and get through the other half of his papers. I hope that all of you going through this have been able to forget for even the shortest time the pressure and to enjoy moments.


I've been thinking a lot about touch recently and how it has to work both ways. This came about because one of my clients asked why I love doing what I do, it didn't take me long to reel off my stock answer - no marking, no paperwork, no Ofsted - but then I started to think about it. When you are touched it releases a raft of 'happy hormones', those that reassure you, make you feel safe, make you feel valued, and it reminds you that you are a real person within a community of others.  The wonderful thing is that you cannot touch without also being touched; it's a two-way process so all of the benefits that I pass on when giving a treatment also come back to be in some way. Isn't that just wonderful?

People respond to touch very differently - what for one person is hardly any touch at all is way too much for another and that's why therapists will always ask you if the pressure is okay. The treatments also work in different ways - Indian Head Massage is a very light touch but it is the repetition that calms and eases; reiki is just touch (and I still don't understand how it can work!) but it can work in the same way as other treatments for the total relaxation. Swedish massage and deep tissue massage work on a different level but it is still a caring touch and offers the same sense of well-being as any other treatment. The most amazing thing though, is that I get back what I give; as I'm treating you, I'm also receiving those messages that tell me I am safe and valued. That's why I love my job.

So today, make sure you touch someone in a good way - a handshake, a pat on the back, a hug - let yourselves know that you are valued.

In the real world...





Hello, I do hope this finds you well and rested.

Please accept my apologies for the gap between blogs. Despite the best of intentions, reminders on my phone, nudges from family and friends, etc, etc, etc - life got in the way. Since I last wrote many things have changed in my life - my daily routine is no longer routine! Where I used to find time to sit and think and write something I now struggle to do any one of these things at a time... 

However, after some fantastic training with Sarah Woodhouse Reflexology today, I am re-evaluating what is important to me. So some things will be changing to ease things into happening. I still intend to provide you with a bespoke treatment, that will never change, I am adjusting more the way I look at things that I am doing - are they right for me? my family? my service? I'm hoping that by changing the way I look at things new and exciting things will start to manifest within my life - things that I've only dared to dream of with outcomes that can transform everything. 

Is that too much to hope for? After today's training, I don't believe it is. 

As those of you who know me are aware, some of the changes in my life over the last few years have been huge and outside my control. The positive effects of these waves of change have been phenomenal on many levels - taking the plunge into a new career that had always fascinated me was incredible, thanks to that enforced change I have met some wonderful people who have filled my life with joy, energy, love and laughter. Also thanks to that change, I have had low periods of thinking that I am not good at anything, that it was a mistake following my heart... These feelings are not unusual - and the more I talk to others the more I realise this and recognise that it is part of our human experience in this century. My new resolution is to acknowledge these but also to remind myself of just how far I have come. I know that I need to stop projecting forward and just to enjoy where I am now, at this moment and in this place... Not easy as so many of you know, it's more of a guideline - some days are going to be more successful than others and I have to accept that that's okay.

So, changes are going to happen, to be honest as I write this in the afterglow of great teaching and support, I feel truly empowered. The trick will be hanging on to that - I'll keep you up-to-date!

Other things that I learnt today are going to transform the reflexology treatments that you receive from me - plugging in to my instincts more and trusting myself when my hands just seem to move on their own ;) I don't know if you'll notice a difference, you'll have to let me know!

What is reiki?




Happy New Year!

I hope that this finds you well and rested after the holiday season. It can be fabulous to spend time with those you love and especially if no one has to get up too early in the morning!

I thought that this year I would start by explaining a bit more about all of the therapies that I currently offer.

First up is the the therapy I am asked about more than all others - reiki.

Reiki is a Japanese form of healing, a practitioner is taught to allow universal healing to flow through them to where it is needed. It is very gentle, can be done with or without touch and also over a distance. When you are sending the energy your hands are guided to where they are needed and you feel different things depending on what’s happening with the person and their life. Heat, cold or vibrations can all indicate an issue that needs clearing. A practitioner cannot diagnose problems, they just channel the energy. Clients having this treatment are usually amazed by how relaxed they feel during and afterwards. It's not unusual for someone to fall asleep on the couch... The gentle breathing lets me know that I'm doing a good job!

I first came across reiki about 15 years ago when I was pregnant with my second child. I felt really poorly and had aches and pains in my hips. When my friend offered, I said yes because I thought anything was worth a shot at that time! I felt so much better afterwards and to this day I am grateful to her. Later she went on to attune me for my first level.

Reiki is shared from master to student on an individual basis or in very small groups and these all lead back to Usui who first taught it. This gentleness is central to the therapy - nothing is forced, it allows time and the universe to do their thing.

To be honest, I really do not know how it works, but I have been amazed by what I have seen it do.

This is the time of year for reflecting on what's been happening in our journeys through life; I am very grateful that mine has been filled with learning, love and laughter... 

In January, I met with six others in a room in Stowmarket to learn how to massage people. Fortunately, Jane of ATA Beauty was one of them and she taught us all with humour, grace and a deep understanding of her subject. By the end of the week we were able to give a massage to a high standard before being launched into the world of case studies. At the same time, being slightly mad, I was also half-way through my Complementary Therapies course and studying aromatherapy - every week the classroom was filled with heavenly scents as we learnt the properties of so many essential oils. 

In the middle of the year The Holistic Daisy was born after my gorgeous daughter came up with the name - it stuck because it describes who I am and what I hope to offer. It's never been about just a treatment for me, it's about the whole person and what they need at that particular moment.

I knew I needed to advertise my services and so called on the wonderful Dave of nine circles design. He built this amazing website for me - I thoroughly enjoyed our day together where I went from complete non-starter to 'which button was that again?' under his patient guidance. It's all thanks to him!

In June I discovered feet. More precisely, I discovered the amazing therapy that is reflexology; I was hooked from the first moment that I found out that you can relax a whole person just by working on their feet. If you've never tried it, give it a go just once...

At the beginning of this year I had no idea of where I would be at this time - I was sure I liked the idea of being a holistic therapist, sure - but could I do it? Well, yes, I can!  I've met new people and made friends, laughed, learnt and been amazed at just what the human body does and can do. I'm loving my new adventure and aim to keep learning new ways of helping people in their life.
